Ferner Osten (Miscanthus Sinensis)

Miscanthus Sinensis 'Ferner Osten' is a clump-forming variety of this popular ornamental grass with long, upright, fine-arching leaves. In summer, it produces deep pink-red feathery flower plumes which gradually turn slver and look particularly attractive come autumn/winter. Leave these over winter for the birds to enjoy and cut back hard in the spring, Feb/March is the ideal time and, by May or June it will be back to its original height with a wealth of new, lush green foliage.

Miscanthus Ferner Osten prefers a moisture retentive soil in full sun. Grasses are an essential part of a well-designed mixed herbaceous border, they add drama, height and texture, looking fantastic with contrasting colours of perennials and shrubs. Miscanthus Ferner Osten reaches a height of approximately 1.5M.
