Dahlia 'Mexican Star'
Formally 'Mexican Black'
Hybrid of Chocolate Cosmos
Rich Chocolate Colour
Single Flower Type
Height 80cm
A wonderful variety of Dahlia, apparently crossed with Chocolate Cosmos, the flowers have the same subtle scent of chocolate but bigger, sturdier flowers on very long stems. We love these single flower types that attract the pollinators. Mexican Star has a beautiful central yellow floret, to tempt all those bees. One of our favourite Dahlias! Plant your plant or tubers in a fertile, well drained soil in full sun once the risk of frost is over. Feed with a liquid fertiliser every two weeks in the growing season, we use Lou's Poo (available on our website) and water well in dry spells. you will be rewarded with plenty of blooms right up to the first frosts of autumn. Its always worth staking your Dahlia plants right at the point of planting, that way you can tie in as they grow and you will have very natural looking but supported dahlia flowers.
