Calamagrostis Variegated Grass

Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Overdam' has fine green and white variegated leaves that are wonderfully abundant with a bolt upright compact habit. This grass produces beautiful delicate pink-tinted and  slender flower plumes in summer that last well into the autumn and winter, hence its common name of The Feather Reed grass. We love to leave see the flowers through the winter months, not only are they a wonderful source of food for the birds but they look really pretty when frosted.

Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Overdam' can reach a height of 120cm, flowers Jul-Aug and likes a moisture retentive soil in full sun. Ornamental grasses are an essential part of a well designed border especially when mixed with colourful late summer herbaceous plants such as Rudbeckia, Echinacea or Achillea. We often design with Calamagrostis 'Overdam' and often use it in a mono planting scheme, so using just one type of grass en-masse, its dramatic, low maintenance and looks great all year round.
